NWweddingplace.com's Planning Advice & Articles Section √ by Leslie Halstrom Complete Article: A Courthouse Ceremony Was My Dream WeddingMarriage is the most private of institutions. My husband & I wanted to celebrate this most sacred of all contracts in privacy. Deciding to marry was a very personal journey for us and selfishly, maybe, we didnt want to share the moment or be responsible for making the moment special for anyone else but us. We have spent many years building our relationship and did not want a wedding ceremony or reception with the first dance first toast first anything. We didnt want a showy ceremony, elaborate cake or fancy clothes to stir excitement about a ceremony that has nothing to do with building our life together. We talked forever about what marriage means to us. It was almost like establishing a country with our own mission statement and constitution. We continue to discuss what our union represents to us what it stands for. We will add amendments as we grow and change together but we have established the entity and vowed to protect it at all costs. I like the observation made by Rev. Joseph Lowery: We cant do ourselves justice by letting our tribute end in the wedding ceremony. You have to move from ceremony to sacrament. Sacrament takes up where ceremony leaves off." For my wedding, I
will dress in black, To want what I
have,
For my wedding, I
don't want violins, To want what I
have, I dream, and my
dreams are all glory and light, So what makes us
any different from all the others, To want what we
have, -Don Henley Needless to say, our courthouse wedding was my dream wedding. Make your day exactly what you jointly want it to be. Copyright NWweddingplace.com 2008-2012.
